Lisa Richards' Health Soup
from the Dark Shadows Celebrity Cookbook

It was an interesting adventure following the recipe for Lisa Richards' Health Soup in the Dark Shadows Celebrity Cookbook.  Ms. Richards notes that the recipe is also called Bieler Broth, something I knew nothing about.  After a little research I learned that its original creator was Dr. Henry Bieler, an innovative practitioner of alternative medicine in the first half of the twentieth century.  He devised this simple soup as part of a detoxifying regimen for the blood and liver with his work extending  into other areas of diet and disease as well.  Enjoying considerable success and notoriety in his time his idea are is still held in some significant regard today.  Miss Richards' recipes in the cookbook are all focused on health and this one is particularly good.  Fresh green beans, zucchini, and celery are chopped and steamed in spring water for just a few minutes and then blended until smooth with the addition of fresh parsley.  The result is a beautiful green puree with a mild but very pleasant  flavor.  She suggests serving it with a little garlic  and some grated Parmesan cheese.  Dr. Bieler suggests a bit of raw organic butter.  I tried both and enjoyed each at lunch and felt tip top for the rest of the day.  This recipe opened a new door for me and I think you would do well to give it a try.  Dr. Beiler is worth reading up on too.
